Have You Tried These Tips to Lose Weight?
At 280 pounds, I was desperate to try all the tips to lose weight that came my way. Some tips were helpful like weighing myself daily and not eating after dinner. Some tips were dangerous like eating less than 1200 calories daily.
As a registered nurse who lost over 140 pounds, it is important to share tips to lose weight that are credible, safe and easy to follow. Here are some tips I used that led me to success.
Tip #1
Start with your own plan. After 25 years of trying the latest diet, I found developing my own plan led me to successful weight management. Your plan should consider your food preferences, your lifestyle and your personality. Avoid the latest fad diet because this will lead to diet resistance and failure.
Instead, use a daily food intake journal
and record everything you eat and drink for one full week. Then review your journal for opportunities to make healthier changes such as substituting low fat foods for high calorie ones. Your plan should be as unique as you!
Tip # 2
Go Fiber! Fiber is an excellent way to keep you full and feeling satisfied. There are many great tasting fiber products available on the market today. One of my favorite brands is Fiber One. I especially like the Fiber One cereal because I can add it to many foods such as salads and soups instead of croutons.
Another great source of fiber is the high fiber bread by Aunt Millie. One slice is only 35 calories and gives you 5 grams of fiber.
Remember to drink plenty of water with your fiber for added fullness.
Tip #3
Snack daily. After reviewing your daily food intake journal, check for times when you become noticeably hungry or stressed and add a snack at this time. Low calorie, crunchy snacks such as baby carrots, celery sticks, an apple or a salad with fat free dressing are great to munch away your stress and eliminate hunger between meals.
Tip #4
Eat at the same time daily. Our bodies depend on rhythms and cycles for good health. Eating at the same time daily helps your body stay in rhythm and will keep you healthy. Eating at the same time daily will also help you ward off hunger pangs as you train your body to expect to eat at specific times during the day.
Tip #5
Keep a journal. Journals are valuable for many reasons. Journals help you track your progress for motivation. Journals help you identify what is working in your plan to help you become successful. Journals help you identify how to get back on track should you experience a setback. And, journals help you identify those food cues and triggers that drive you to overeat.
You, too, can become obesity free forever by following these simple tips that I used and continue to use to manage my weight.
